Sơn thường cho bé: taking a child to a Da Nang nail salon in Chuseok week, and why theirs is polish while yours is gel

Fourteen of the 760 public reviews behind this guide have the reviewer's own child in them, across twelve of the 159 salons. In eleven the child is in the chair for nails; in one it is a child's massage; in two the shop simply kept the children busy while the adults were done. All fourteen are five stars. Nobody was turned away, nobody was asked how old the child was, and nobody had to explain themselves. This is a family trade to a degree the shopfronts do not show · reviews name the owner's son at Lee Nails on Tô Hiến Thành, the owner's children at Oanh Beauty on Trần Duy Chiến, the owner's daughter at 1993 Nails on Châu Thị Vĩnh Tế · and a child in the room is not an event.

The busiest rooms first. Thuỳ Thỏ Nail, 17 An Thượng 27, 1,898 reviews, twice this summer: one mother singles out the patience shown over her daughter's mani-pedi; another describes her daughter's coloured nails with stamps while the whole family had foot rubs and pedicures, and mentions the fresh-juice stand out front. Lalla Nail on An Thượng 29, 1,101 reviews, took three bookings for one family on a June afternoon · acrylic with a Crayon Shin-chan design and a pedicure for the mother, floral builder gel for the daughter, a heel-care pedicure for the father · and everything matched the pictures they brought. At Oasis Spa & Nail, 124 Nguyễn Văn Thoại, 684 reviews, an eleven-year-old picked her design off the internet and the shop painted it while her parent had a hair wash and a facial.

Then the smaller rooms. lol's 1 nail, 106 Nguyễn Văn Thoại, 538 reviews: a mother and her daughters, and a line about the pricing. Amou Nail Studio, 175 Nguyễn Chí Thanh, 298 reviews: a walk-in after Hàn Market, kids' nail art for the daughter and a foot scrub for the mother, every tool opened from its own packet, and a discount on the child's art that the shop offered rather than the customer asked for. KEL ART on An Thượng 5, 136 reviews: hands and feet for a mother and daughter, three hours. Bling Bling on Nguyễn Hữu Thông, 117 reviews: a family with small children, pedicures and a foot massage. R Nail & Spa 3 on Võ Nguyên Giáp, 58 reviews, twice, one daughter leaving with extensions. And Mei.nail, 472/27 Võ Nguyên Giáp, 25 reviews, written up in August by a father who says plainly that he does not use these services himself: one client at a time, quiet, careful, daughter delighted.

So the answer to the question people actually type is yes, at every size of shop, on both sides of the river. The rest of this piece is about what to buy once you are through the door, because the reviews above contain builder gel and extensions on children as well as polish, and this guide does not think those are the same decision.

A children's menu exists, and polish on it is 55K

One Da Nang studio publishes a children's price list, and it is worth having as a benchmark even if you never go. Reverie Nail Studio, 19 An Thượng 27 · a door along from Thuỳ Thỏ · lists its work for children on hellodanang.vn, a local listings site, in a piece dated 8 April 2026: cuticle care on hands or feet 45,000đ, polish 55,000đ, nail art 45,000đ. Put that against this guide's adult tables, where classic polish is about 100K and a gel colour about 200K, and a child's polish is priced at roughly half an adult's. Colour plus a painted nail or two lands under 100K, which is less than the Grab there and back from the beach road.

Amou's unprompted discount points the same way, and so does the 1993 Nails bill: 13 euro for two people, the reviewer's own figure, at a shop on Châu Thị Vĩnh Tế where the owner's daughter played with the customer's child and the owner walked to two banks to work out how a cashless visitor could pay. Nobody in these fourteen reviews mentions the price with anything but relief.

Where a child's bill does grow is the same place an adult's grows: per nail. Stickers are 10–40K each and hand-painted work 15–100K, so a child asking for ten different cartoon characters is asking for ten separate jobs at ten separate prices. The stamps in the Thuỳ Thỏ review are the sensible version. A plate-stamped motif is the cheapest design a salon can put on a nail, it takes seconds, and it leaves with the polish. Ask for sơn thường · ordinary polish · and one or two stamped or stickered nails, and the child gets what was on the phone for well under a hundred thousand đồng.

Sơn thường, not gel: the one line to hold

Here is the opinion, and it is the reason to read this rather than just walk in. Ordinary polish for the child. No gel, no builder, no glued-on tips, however good the shop and however hard the ask. Two of the fourteen reviews above did put builder gel or extensions on a daughter and were delighted, and nothing in either suggests anything went wrong that afternoon. The argument is not about that afternoon. It is about the next forty years.

Gel, builder gel and press-on glue all set from (meth)acrylate chemistry, and the British Association of Dermatologists has been warning about it since August 2018, in a statement it updated in January 2024. In a 2017 audit of 4,931 patients patch-tested across thirteen UK and Irish dermatology units, 2.4% reacted to at least one (meth)acrylate and 1.5% to HEMA, the commonest of them, and 60% of those had picked the allergy up through nail enhancements or nail and eyelash glue rather than at work. The allergy is for life. The same chemicals are used in white dental fillings, orthopaedic bone cement and medical adhesives, which is the part that should settle it for a parent: a sensitised twelve-year-old is a patient whose future dentist and surgeon will have to work around her.

The mechanism is skin contact with product that has not cured, and the BAD's own advice is to keep uncured gel off the skin and to use the right lamp for the full time. Now picture the job. A child's nail plate is a few millimetres across, the hand does not stay still, and the technician is working at Da Nang speed with a brush made for an adult finger. Gel that floods the cuticle · the fault this guide has watched peel an adult's set in a week · is the same gel sitting on a child's skin for the minute before the lamp. Ordinary polish has none of this in it. It dries in air, it chips in a week, and it comes off at the hotel with a bottle of remover from any pharmacy.

There is a practical case underneath the medical one. Gel has to be taken off, at 60 to 90K and twenty minutes of soaking or filing, about three weeks after it goes on. Three weeks after a September holiday, the child is back at school in Brisbane or Busan and the salon that did the set is a flight away. Polish solves that problem by not lasting.

The room, checked at child height

The ninety-second check this guide runs at any door does not change for a child, but two of its items get heavier. Tools first: the Amou reviewer describes each instrument individually packaged and opened in front of her, and that is the standard to hold. A file and a pusher are the only tools that should touch a child's nail, and both should come out of a pouch. Then air: acrylic rooms smell of monomer. If a shop is doing đắp bột at the next table, the smell tells you before the sign does, and a child does not need an hour of it.

Then the cut. A Vietnamese manicure includes cutting the cuticle back with nippers unless you say otherwise, and it is on the Reverie children's list at 45K. Say otherwise. The phrase is không cắt da · do not cut the skin · and it removes a step a child does not need and will not enjoy. Pushing the cuticle back is fine. Nippers are not.

And the drill. An e-file is standard kit in a Da Nang salon: Chuty Nailroom on Trần Phú, 68 reviews, put one on a customer who had walked in wearing ordinary polish that acetone would have lifted in a minute. A child wearing polish needs acetone and cotton, nothing electric. If a handpiece comes out, that is the moment to say sơn thường again, slowly.

Time last. The Mei.nail review names the format that suits a small child best, and it is the rarest one in the city: one client at a time, no queue, no other conversation in the room. Most shops are not that. In a normal room the child's polish is a short job · colour and a stamp, no lamp · that will be slotted around your hour, so ask for two technicians, hai thợ, and have the child done beside you at the same time rather than after. KEL ART's three hours for a mother and daughter, hands and feet, is what the one-after-the-other version costs, and no ten-year-old has three hours in her.

Chuseok week, and who else is in the chairs

The timing of this piece is not an accident. Chuseok falls on Friday 25 September this year, with the Korean public holiday running Thursday to Saturday, and Da Nang's tourism department is running a welcome-gift programme for Korean arrivals from the 23rd to the 26th · announced at a Seoul promotion in late June, when the city's own figures put Korean visitors at over 950,000 for the first five months of 2026, after the millionth of 2025 arrived on 1 August last year. The Australian states break up at the same time: Victoria from 19 September, Queensland from the 21st, New South Wales from the 28th. For a fortnight, a lot of the hands in Da Nang's nail chairs are going to be small.

The 26 salons signed in Hangul will be the busiest, and some of the family rooms above are among them · Amou's Google name is half Korean and its booking link is a KakaoTalk chat. The practical consequence is the one this guide keeps arriving at from every direction. Book in writing, book the nine o'clock, and put the child in the message: two people, one child, the age, ordinary polish only. Thuỳ Thỏ opens at eight, Lalla and Mei.nail at nine, and every complaint about being kept waiting in the 760 reviews names an evening slot.

What to say, in one line

The whole request fits in a sentence, and it is worth sending the night before rather than negotiating at the desk with a child pulling at your arm: Làm móng cho bé, sơn thường, không gel, không cắt da · nails for the child, ordinary polish, no gel, no cutting. Add a photo of the design, because the photo does the talking in this city, and it did it for an eleven-year-old at Oasis exactly as well as it does for you.

Expect to pay somewhere between Reverie's 55K and the adult 100K for the polish, 10 to 40K per stickered or stamped nail on top, and nothing for the lamp, because there is no lamp. If a shop quotes 200K for a child and the word gel is in the sentence, it has just told you something useful about itself. The rooms in these fourteen reviews are the ones where a parent was welcomed and the child was treated as a customer; whether the child leaves with polish or with gel is still, in every one of them, the parent's call, and the salon will follow it. The cheap option that chips in a week and comes off with cotton wool is the right one. Buy the gel for yourself.
